Two Days in the Life
Some days in retirement are like vacation. Take yesterday for example. I started the day slowly, catching up on news, blogs, and finances over breakfast. After lunch we we took a 2 hour bike ride and then headed over to our favorite winery to pick up our wine club shipment (saving the UPS charge while also enjoying a little tasting!)
That evening we went to one of the few remaining independently owned, single-screen movie houses left in the U.S. We love this theater, admission is $6 for the matinee and popcorn and sodas are half the price of the multi-screen theaters. Before each show, the owners come out to tell movie-goers about upcoming films and local happenings.
We topped off our evening by going out for dinner and enjoying some good eavesdropping. My favorite quote from the woman to my left, "I feel SO much better when I drink wine!" Well yeah.
Contrast that with today. Change the beds, do laundry, vacuum, sweep, mop, dust and clean the bathrooms. Do my nails, touch up my hair color, and think about going for a jog (but decide to suffer the guilt instead.) Oh, and no wine.
But even with days like today, it sure beats working.

Mopping the floor would definitely be more fun with wine (in your belly, not on the mop). ;-\
Glad to hear about the long bike ride. Might have been able to squeeze a bike picnic in there?

Hehe. There are some restaurants we go to where we you can't help but overhear the conversations next to you, and sometimes they are quite entertaining. A year or so ago, my boyfriend and I were sitting next to two 20-yr old college girls, one saying to the other, "Oh my GOSH she's going out with this guy and he's, like, SO old. I mean, he's, like, 30. ::::pause:::: I mean that's so gross, at least the guy I date is only 29."
We both had to stop ourselves from spitting up our food. Not only is that statement funny as a stand alone comment, but it was especially funny for us because, I was, at the time, 23 and my boyfriend was 35. (He's, "like" more than 30!")

I've been on a mini-retirement since November. One of the problems I face is that having fun requires the expenditure of money. here a matinee costs $10 and a regular show costs $11.50!
Of course, the beach is 20 mins away and thats an afternoons worth of "Free" entertainment (excluding the fact that it now costs $10 in gas to get there!).

We have some $1.50 shows near us and usually just wait until the good shows come there. Bottled water fits neatly in my purse, and a nice bottle of wine (our favorite cab) awaits us at home. Not a bad way to spend an afternoon.

Something tells me it'd be so fun to booze it up with you. :)

Nicole: Well it would have been up until this Saturday morning when I swore off alcohol for the rest of my life (too much Friday night!) It's been 3 days and I'm still not over it!
