More than half of the respondents of Sun Life Finanical’s recent Unretirement Index, expect to retire at least three years later than they had originally planned. The trend toward working past the traditional retirement age has been increasing since the 1980’s, but the recession has accelerated the pace.
Financial reasons are not the only motivation for older workers to delay retirement, though. According to a study by CareerBuilder, 71 percent of workers over the age of 60, are postponing retirement because they enjoy their jobs, and 21 percent fear they will be bored without them.
