I am delinquent on posting a link to last week's post of mine at over at U.S. News, "7 Tasks to Complete Before You Retire."
For some other good reads:
If you're a regular reader here, you know that I think there's a lot more to getting ready for retirement than just figuring out how much money you will need. Which is why I loved this post, "Preparing for Retirement-It's About More Than Money," at new-to-me, Joan's Boomer Blog (thanks for that link LoveBeingRetired!)
And while we're on the subject of quality of life in retirement, this is a great post about the quality of life (or lack thereof) before retirement, "The Real Price of Success-Sacrifices to Build Your Retirement Nest Egg." Great quote in there to sum up the point: " 'The trouble with life in the fast lane is that you get to the other end in an awful hurry' – John Jensen."
Steve at Brip Blap risked verbal assault by taking on the always controversial subject of the cost of kids in "How Kids (Can) Make You Poor." I don't underestimate the impact that not having them had on my retirement plans.
And finally, for a really inspirational read from An Experiment in Retirement, check out Harvard Business Review's "How Will You Measure Your Life."
This is a post from Retirement: A Full-Time Job
Thanks for the reference Syd - there are definitely some good blogs out there and it is great to share them. I like your idea to practice your retirement budget before you actually retire. How better to see if you are being realistic with your expectations at a time when you can still make adjustments before actually retiring.

I really do wonder how much my kids will cost me in retirement. They cost me about 2k per month right now. Sigh. What do I do? Work myself to death?

Retirement is a wonderful and exciting thing. And every individual who experiences this must not fear but be delighted. I'm not retiring yet, but I can't wait until that day comes!
